Mumbai being the most crowded city in India has the most virus cases to
date.
Mumbai has the highest confirmed cases at tally that jumped to 868, while
the highest death rate is also Mumbai at 52. The figure seems not
proportionate to the crowded unhygienic personal hygiene conditions of the
Indians in India.
Also due to shortage of test kits and also due to poor health system, it
further posed a poor disorganised system processes in containing them.
Also, social distancing is not a norm yet and as it depends on the curfew
in preventing people from coming to the streets and roads.
Give it a few more weeks. Soon there won't be enough wood left in
all the forests to supply the obligatory funeral pyres on the Ganges...

Alas, I do not think India is going to escape this. Clearly
the virus likes their genome as much as any other (well,
except maybe the legacies of the Roman Empire).

India is NOT in a position to test very much, and then will
largely use that resource to test the richer, higher-caste.
The poorer masses - a REAL mass in India - will be left
to their fates. The poorer folks make so little money that
they do not even have any food reserves, beat-down
lock-downs cannot work.

And you are right about the traditional funeral pyres ... not
enough wood within 100s of miles around Delhi or Mumbai
for that. It will be big pits and a bulldozer.

Now the interesting thing is that this virus, while stronger
than usual, will STILL only kill a few percent of the population
max. That would not have even have been noticed a 150
years ago. The thing now is that we KNOW about it. So
the real damage in India will not be from overt disease, but
from the POLITICAL ramifications. Who-Cares govt will
become the target of the angry masses and the usual
radicals will eagerly fan the flames, hoping they will come
out on top.

If it becomes chaotic enough, maybe Pakistan will decide
THAT is the moment for the first strike .......
